78. Baby Octopus on a Stick
This is a baby octopus on a stick. It’s stuffed with a quail egg. The red marinade makes it a bit sweet. That’s Kyoto style. You find them in Nishiki Market which is about 400 years old. The baby octopus are fresh. Lots of people take pictures of them mounted on trays like a collection of butterflies. Google it to see. I took a picture of one. I don’t think many of those who take pictures are Japanese, though. For them, an octopus on a stick isn’t really that novel. For me it was. Novelty is a marker of culture.
