79. This Week It's Ponkan
In Canada we have oranges aplenty. Odd because we don’t grow them. The bins of oranges (mostly Navels, sometimes Sevilles or Bloods) in Canadian supermarkets are bigger than in Japanese stores. And they’re there all year round.
It’s actually hard to get citrus out of season in Japan, at a reasonable price anyways. Odd because they grow loads of them here.
But it’s citrus season now.
This is a ponkan. Last week we had mikan - a mandarin or satsuma. A Ponkan peels like a mikan but is both sweeter and more tart with a powerful orange flavour. Like Orange Crush.
