80. The Fruit of Labour
2pm tea break in the home office:
The hoshigaki (dried persimmons) that we’ve been eyeing impatiently since December as they hung under the eaves outside our front door to dry in the winter sun, the last of the pecans from the bottom of the bag and a hot cup of hojicha (green tea roasted after it’s steamed). The little tin dish…it was hammered out by a backyard smith in Hayama and the green mug was made by my wife. If you want a comparison, it all makes you warm and smiley and happy like maybe toast with butter and jam.
