17. Smallest Menu in the World
Jyajyaoiken is tiny: five seats.
There is only ONE item on the menu.
All you need to do is decide which size you would like.
That’s what the English menu says, verbatim.
That item: unique jyajyamen, flat udon with aromatic nikumiso (a paste of ground pork, onions, ginger, garlic), one of the three “Great Noodle Dishes” of Morioka, up in Iwate. When done, crack an egg into your bowl and whisk. The owner will add hot broth to make egg soup for an extra 80 yen.
For Ford, who couldn’t face making another decision that busy morning, that was perfect.
